Dr Varun Mehra is an accomplished and experienced consultant haematologist with a specialisation in myelodysplastic syndrome, acute leukaemia, bone marrow failure syndromes, and transplantation for autoimmune conditions. He has extensive training and expertise in the field, having completed his specialist haematology training at King's College Hospital in London and a fellowship in stem cell transplantation and cellular therapy.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Mehra is also actively involved in research and education. He has led several clinical research studies and has published his findings in high-impact clinical and scientific journals. His research interests include infections of immunocompromised hosts, graft versus host disease, and transplantation of autoimmune diseases. He is also involved in developing post-graduation modules for training in clinical haematology and disease-specific preceptorship programs.
Dr Mehra is also fully trained in CAR-T therapy, a new and highly specialised therapy for certain patients with relapsed high-grade B cell lymphomas and acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. His passion for education and training is reflected in his roles as the current educational lead for the haematology specialist training program in King's College Hospital and his involvement in various specialist trainee committees and Royal College advisory groups.
