Dr Panicos Shangaris is a Consultant Obstetrician with subspecialty accreditation in Maternal and Fetal Medicine, with more than 18 years of experience in high risk pregnancy care. His clinical practice includes pre pregnancy consultation, first trimester assessment, detailed fetal ultrasound evaluation, invasive and non invasive prenatal diagnostics, and the management of medically and obstetrically complex pregnancies.
He qualified in medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2005 and completed specialist training in Obstetrics and Maternal Fetal Medicine in London. He undertook advanced fellowship training at King’s College Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital in fetal medicine. He holds a Master’s degree in Fetal Medicine and Prenatal Genetics from University College London and was awarded a Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship to complete a PhD focused on fetal medicine.
Dr Shangaris is a Senior Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London, where he is involved in academic research and postgraduate training. His research interests include improving pregnancy outcomes, with particular focus on the prediction and prevention of preterm birth. His clinical expertise includes progesterone treatment, cervical length monitoring, and cervical cerclage placement as part of structured prevention strategies for women at increased risk of preterm labour.
He integrates specialist maternal fetal expertise with structured, individualised care planning throughout pregnancy, ensuring clear communication and continuity of care.
