Arvind Mittal is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Obstetrician whose NHS base is West Hertfordshire Hospitals, primarily working at Watford and St Albans. He has extensive experience across the full range of obstetrics and gynaecology, with particular expertise in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery, including office hysteroscopy.
Mr Mittal’s clinical interests include the management of pelvic pain, painful intercourse, endometriosis (including laser treatment), menstrual disorders, fibroids, contraception, premenstrual syndrome, menopause and hormone replacement therapy. He also provides women’s cancer screening and treats vulval conditions such as lichen sclerosus. In addition, he offers vaginal surgery for prolapse and has significant experience in both minimally invasive and conventional open gynaecological surgery.
For fibroid management, Mr Mittal offers open myomectomy, laparoscopic myomectomy, and hysteroscopic resection of fibroids, tailoring the approach to each individual patient. He also performs laparoscopic surgery for ectopic pregnancy and ovarian cysts, as well as procedures for cervical insufficiency, including cervical cerclage.
Mr Mittal qualified in medicine in India in 1987, earning his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS). He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (MRCOG) and holds additional qualifications including a Diploma in Radiology (DMRD), a Master of Surgery in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and a postgraduate certificate in Advanced Gynaecological Endoscopy. He has over 30 years’ experience in obstetrics and gynaecology and undertook extensive specialist training in laparoscopy and hysteroscopy, including training at major London teaching hospitals such as Guy’s and St Thomas’ and King’s College Hospital.
He is an active member of the British and European Societies of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE and ESGE) and the American Association of Gynaecological Laparoscopists (AAGL). Alongside his clinical work, Mr Mittal has contributed to education in his field, serving as faculty on laparoscopic training courses and workshops in the UK and internationally.
