About
Mr Andrew Richards completed his undergraduate studies in medicine at St. Mary's Hospital, London in 1996, where he also obtained an Honours Degree in Physiology. He undertook his specialist orthopaedic training on the South West Thames rotation where he developed specialist interests in shoulder and elbow surgery and in complex trauma surgery. Additionally, he undertook a one-year fellowship at the world-renowned John Hopkins Hospital in the USA where his research, on tears of the rotator cuff, led to the award of a Master of Surgery degree. He also received additional specialist training in complex trauma and reconstructive surgery at the Rowley Bristow unit in Surrey and in arthroscopic techniques in the shoulder and elbow at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospital in London.
In 2009, Andrew was appointed as a consultant at Guy's and St. Thomas' Hospitals with a specialist interest in shoulder and elbow surgery and complex traumatic injuries of the upper limb.
Andrew is particularly interested in arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery, particularly in treating sports injuries and his practice is solely concerned with problems of the shoulder and elbow. At Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, London he has a tertiary referral clinic dealing with the most difficult of cases, including the surgical reconstruction of complex shoulder and elbow injuries.
For his practice, Andrew uses the latest techniques available and his care is delivered at the highest standards. He also works closely with leading physiotherapists to provide an integrated approach to recovery that helps each patient to return to work, or their chosen sport, as quickly as possible.
