Dr Miguel Reis Ferreira is a Consultant Clinical Oncologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Adjunct Senior Clinical Lecturer at King’s College London. He specialises in the management of head and neck cancers including: mouth cancer, laryngeal cancer, throat cancers, salivary gland cancer, nose and sinus cancer and nasopharyngeal cancer. Dr Reis Ferreira treats these conditions using radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
He completed his medical degree and specialist training in Lisbon, Portugal. He obtained a highly prestigious Gulbenkian PhD award and subsequently moved to the UK to develop research at the Institute of Cancer Research (IRC) and the Royal Marsden NHS Trust. During his PhD he discovered that bacteria predict patients at higher risk of developing radiation-induced side-effects.
Dr Reis Ferreira currently leads a programme of clinical and translational research at King’s investigating whether bacteria and immune cells can help to personalise and improve treatment of patients with head and neck cancer.
He is a member of the Royal College of Radiologists, Collegiate Member of the Royal College of Physicians and European Society of Radiotherapy and Oncology.
