From restoring obstructive sleep to removing cancer with precision, I’m here to help you breathe easier, speak with clarity and swallow with ease. Mr Jahangir Ahmed is a consultant head & neck, sleep, and airway surgeon with a reputation for clinical excellence, surgical precision, and patient-centred care. Educated at the University of Cambridge and Imperial College School of Medicine, he graduated with distinction in 2001 and was awarded the Gold Medal in Pathology. He also holds an MA in Experimental Psychology from Cambridge and a PhD in molecular Oncology from the Barts Cancer Institute, where his research contributed to the development of genetically optimised viruses for cancer immunotherapy. Following specialist ENT training at many of London’s most prestigious ENT hospitals, Mr Ahmed was appointed consultant at Barts Health and UCLH in 2017. He now serves as Clinical Lead for ENT at the Royal London Hospital and plays a key role in the multidisciplinary management of head and neck cancer and thyroid disease. Mr Ahmed provides advanced, tailored care across the full spectrum of ENT and head and neck conditions, but is particularly sought after for his work in airway and obstructive sleep apnoea surgery.
For patients affected by snoring or obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA), especially those who cannot tolerate CPAP, he offers a comprehensive range of cutting-edge procedures. These include radiofrequency, coblation, and laser techniques, as well as two of the most advanced treatments available in the UK: hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS) and transoral robotic surgery (TORS). Both are minimally invasive approaches that restore natural unobstructed breathing during sleep, reducing or eliminating the need for CPAP. Mr Ahmed’s team has successfully helped more than 75% of CPAP-intolerant patients come off CPAP entirely. He is highly experienced in treating nasal obstruction and sinus disease, often overlooked contributors to poor sleep and breathing. Using advanced endoscopic and imageguided techniques, he is skilled in treating chronic sinusitis, nasal polyps, and structural blockages such as septal deviations and enlarged terbinates to restore nasal airflow. Mr Ahmed runs a high-volume thyroid surgical practice with an exceptionally low complication rate.
As well precise removal of the thyroid gland, he routinely performs selective neck dissection for advanced thyroid cancer, with a strong emphasis on nerve preservation to protect voice, swallow and neck function. His practice includes the management of voice disorders, swallowing problems, and complex airway reconstruction, as well as benign and malignant tumours across all head and neck subsites, including the tonsils, tongue, pharynx, larynx, salivary glands, and thyroid. He has expertise in scarless, transoral (through the mouth) surgery using laser, coblation, robotic and microlaryngoscopic techniques. His extensive use of the Da Vinci robotic system makes him one of the most experienced transoral robotic surgeons in the UK; delivering safe, precise, minimally invasive treatment while preserving function and quality of life.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Ahmed is passionate about education and innovation. He is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London and serves as education co-lead for ENT at Barts Health. He trains junior surgeons, publishes widely in peer-reviewed journals, and presents regularly at national and international conferences, ensuring his practice remains firmly rooted in the latest evidence-based care. Respected for his calm, thoughtful manner and clear communication, Mr Ahmed is trusted by patients and colleagues alike.
He takes time to understand concerns, explains options clearly, and remains closely involved throughout the patient journey; from initial diagnosis to long-term recovery. Whether you are seeking help for snoring, nasal blockage, sinusitis, obstructive sleep apnoea, or need expert care for a voice issue, thyroid lump, or head and neck cancer, Mr Ahmed offers unparalleled treatment with empathy, precision, and a clear goal in mind: To help you breathe easier, speak clearly, swallow comfortably and have a good night sleep.
