Dr Gupta is the Clinical Director for Haematology and Cancer at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS hospital. He is the principal investigator of TACTIC CoVID trial. Dr Gupta is now taking patients at London Bridge Hospital. Dr Gupta is a clinician with experience in clinical and laboratory haematology spanning more than 21 years. He completed training at Kings College Hospital, London; Royal North Shore Hospital, Australia; National University Hospital (NUH), Singapore; and All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), India. He obtained CCST from London Deanery at Kings College Hospital. His clinical research was carried out on anthracycline toxicity in children suffering from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
As an academic, he is deeply interested in teaching and research and he is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Brighton and Sussex medical school. In 2011, Dr Gupta became a consultant haematologist. He is specialised in haematology and oncology, with a deep interest in clotting disorders and anaemias. He was the lead research and development (R and D) in haematology at East Sussex healthcare, as well as at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS trust. He diagnoses and treats a variety of primary blood disorders (Clotting disorders, Bleeding disorders and Anaemias). Part of his services includes inpatient and outpatient chemotherapies for Multiple Myeloma, Lymphomas, Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia and Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia.
Dr. Gupta also provides day case and inpatient blood transfusion and iron infusion. Dr Gupta provides consultations at all the major private hospitals in and around Bromley and Orpington. He is on the panel of all the major health insurance providers. He belongs to the British Society of Haematology, European Haematology Association, Medical Protection Society and the American Society of Haematology. He is associated with charitable organizations in the UK and in India. The awards he has received include the prestigious Glory of India award based on his academic and social contributions. He is a deep sports enthusiast. Based on his accreditation as a Yoga teacher, he holds weekly classes in Bromley. He married Dr Meenal Gupta, a renowned histo-pathologist. Dr Sunil Gupta currently works at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust as a Consultant haematologist and haem-oncologist.
