Dr Rakesh Sharma is a highly qualified and experienced Consultant Cardiologist based at Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Foundation Trust, where he is also the clinical lead for cardiology and cardiac sarcoidosis. His key specialist areas of expertise include heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, advanced pacing (including implantation of biventricular pacemakers and defibrilltors), cardiac sarcoidosis and cardio-oncology.
In 1995, Dr Sharma graduated with triple honours from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School, after which he embarked upon postgraduate training at a number of tertiary centres across London. The British Heart Foundation awarded him a fellowship to study a PhD in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute based at Imperial College London. His outstanding research granted him the prestigious Young Investigator Prize from the American Heart Association.
Dr Sharma remains actively involved in research, and participates in research programmes focused in heart failure, cardiac sarcoidosis and complex device therapy. He has published widely in the field of cardiology, as the author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles, including original papers, reviews, abstracts, editorials and book chapters. He is also regularly invited to share his research and expertise at national and international conferences.
