Dr Kuitert has been a Consultant Respiratory Physician for more than 20 years. She has a wide range of experience however her special interests are cough, breathlessness, acute and chronic chest infections, asthma, and blood clots in the lungs. She also has experience in lung cancer, emphysema and COPD, sarcoidosis, sleep apnoea, and more recently, Long Covid. Dr Kuitert qualified in New Zealand but moved to the UK in 1990 to further her training and to do research. She became a Fellow of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and the Royal College of Physicians. She completed a PhD at Imperial College in 2001. At Barts Health NHS Trust she was previously Clinical Director of Specialist Medicine, Director of the Adult Cystic Fibroisis service, and set up a specialist Cough Clinic. She participated in the development of guidelines on the diagnosis and management of DVT and pulmonary emboli (blood clots in the lungs and legs) and was a member of the Antibiotic Review group for more than ten years.
Dr Kuitert left NHS practice to concentrate on private practice in 2015, but holds Honorary Consultant status with Barts Health NHS Trust.
