About

David Feuer is a Consultant in Palliative Medicine at Barts Health NHS Trust and The Homerton University NHS Foundation Trust, where he also serves as Lead Cancer Clinician at The Homerton University Hospital. He is widely recognised for his expertise in the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of malignant intestinal obstruction, and for his commitment to ensuring high-quality palliative care and effective pain relief for patients at every stage of illness.

Dr Feuer graduated from the University of Southampton with degrees in Molecular Biology and Medicine. He completed specialist training in General Medicine and Palliative Medicine across North Thames and was appointed Senior Registrar and Research Fellow at The Royal Marsden NHS Trust between 1996 and 1998. During this time, he undertook a major NHS-funded systematic review on the management of intestinal obstruction due to advanced gynaecological and intestinal cancer. He was appointed to his current consultant post in July 2000.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Feuer has a strong academic and teaching focus, particularly on the critical appraisal of medical literature. He has published extensively in palliative medicine, general surgery, specialised gynaecological oncology, and oncology journals, and has delivered numerous presentations at local, national, and international meetings. Notably, he was invited as an expert speaker to an NIH meeting in Los Angeles in 2004, contributing to the development of methodologies for prospective randomised end-of-life research using malignant bowel obstruction as a model.

Dr Feuer has also acted as an advisor to national NCEPOD enquiries, including Caring to the End (2009) and the Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy study (2008).
