Central motor conduction time studies
TESTS TO MEASURE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
HCA UK provides testing for the electrical signals of the nervous system to help diagnose neurological problems
What are nerve conduction studies?
Nerve conduction studies such as Central motor conduction time (CMCT) are tests that monitor the neural impulses to upper and lower limbs.
A CMCT is a diagnostic test used by consultants to assess the function of your central nervous system, motor and sensory nerves.
Need to know
Before your appointment, it is advisable to wear loose-fitting clothing and remove any jewellery that may get in the way. You should avoid using any moisturising creams or lotions on the day of the test as they may interfere with the test.
It's important your hands and feet are warm, cold limbs may affect the result. You can eat and drink normally before your appointment.
There are no side effects of the central motor conduction time test, although you might find the sensations a little uncomfortable. You will be able to leave the hospital immediately after your tests have been completed and can eat and drink normally afterwards.
Your consultant will get in touch with you to discuss your results and any relevant treatment options.
