About gynaecological cancers

Gynaecological oncology is a specialised area of cancer care focusing on the diagnosis and treatment of cancers affecting women's reproductive organs, including ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer and womb cancer.

Our unique partnerships with top NHS trusts , Leaders in Oncology Care and Sarah Cannon Research Institute keep us at the forefront of emerging treatments - so we can offer you the latest options and high quality care, faster.

We also take a holistic approach to your care, not only addressing the physical symptoms, but also focusing on your mental and emotional wellbeing throughout your treatment and recovery. We have clinical locations in London, Birmingham and Manchester.

Diagnosing gynaecological cancers

At HCA Healthcare UK we provide access to diagnostic tests and imaging scan to support our consultants as they investigate your illness.

Our multidisciplinary teams of gynaecologists, oncologists, surgeons and radiologists work together to provide the highest standard of personalised care for conditions including cervical, ovarian, vaginal, vulval and uterine (womb) cancer.

Common diagnostics in gynaecology include:

Pelvic examination

The examination will be performed by your doctor who will examine your cervix using a specialist microscope. It can help diagnose issues such as pelvic pain, unusual bleeding, or urinary tract infections.

Cervical screen (smear test)

Screening checks for human papilloma virus (HPV) infection. The test will be performed by a qualified nurse or doctor who will take a small sample of cells for examination. This is a quick and simple process and usually only takes a few minutes.

Colposcopy

A colposcopy is a procedure to examine in detail the cervix (neck of the womb) with a microscope and identify any abnormal cells.

Cervical biopsy

Including a cone biopsy / punch biopsy. This biopsy is preformed during a colposcopy procedure, a sample will be taken from your cervix and sent for further analysis.

HPV screening

HPV DNA Test. Through a simple swab, the HPV DNA test looks for human papilloma virus genes in your cervical cells

X-ray

A diagnostic scan used to produce images of the inside of the body.

CT scan

Computed tomography (CT) scan is sometimes referred to as a CAT scan and shows detailed 2D and 3D images of your organs, blood vessels and bones.

MRI scan

Our consultant radiologists use some of the most technologically advanced MRI scanners to provide accurate examinations of the inside of your body.
