Dr Shalini Chawla is a consultant obstetrician with clinical responsibilities spanning antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care. She holds the role of Postnatal Lead, contributing to the care of women throughout pregnancy and following childbirth, and is involved in both planned and emergency obstetric services.
Her postgraduate medical training includes obstetrics and gynaecology in the UK, alongside earlier training in general surgery in India. She has also completed advanced training in maternal medicine, supporting her work with women experiencing medically complex pregnancies.
Dr Chawla leads antenatal clinics, where she supports expectant mothers through informed decision-making and personalised care planning from early pregnancy through delivery and the postnatal period. Her clinical approach focuses on providing clear information and continuity of care across all stages of maternity.
Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Chawla holds several educational and leadership roles. She serves as a Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology college tutor and acts as training programme director for foundation doctors. She also contributes to professional development through teaching on the Managing Obstetric Emergencies and Trauma course.
Additional responsibilities include her role as divisional rota lead, supporting service delivery and workforce coordination. Through her combined clinical, educational and leadership work, Dr Chawla contributes to both patient care and the training of future clinicians.
