Mr. Mirnezami is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon specializing in open and laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He has completed advanced fellowship training at University College, St Thomas', and the internationally renowned St Mark's, where he spent a year as Resident Surgical Officer. His expertise spans a broad range of colorectal conditions including early and advanced colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, intestinal failure, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. Mr. Mirnezami's main areas of clinical and research interest are colorectal cancer and neuroendocrine tumours (NET) of the mid-gut. As the MDT lead for colorectal cancer, he is passionate about evidence-based practice and high-quality clinical and translational research in surgery. He was awarded his PhD in 2013 at Imperial College London for a project supervised by Lord Ara Darzi, focusing on colorectal cancer metabolism using novel molecular phenotyping approaches. Mr. Mirnezami has recently supervised his first PhD student and is currently the lead investigator on several active research studies evaluating radiation response mechanisms in rectal cancer and the role of diet in colorectal cancer development and progression.
