Protima Deb is a Consultant Paediatric Gastroenterologist based in London. She sees patients privately at The Portland Hospital for Women and Children and holds a substantive NHS consultant post. In addition, she is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Queen Mary University of London.
Dr Deb graduated in medicine from Imperial College London in 2002, where she also completed an intercalated BSc in Haematology. She undertook her paediatric training in London and went on to specialise in paediatric gastroenterology, a field she values for its rapid innovation, procedural practice, and close integration of research and clinical care.
Her specialist academic and clinical interest lies in the gut microbiota in childhood inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Dr Deb completed a PhD investigating the role of the microbiome in childhood Crohn’s disease and continues to explore how modulation of gut bacteria may support long-term remission in children with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. She regularly lectures on her work at national and international conferences.
Dr Deb has extensive expertise in diagnostic endoscopy and is a JAG-accredited endoscopy trainer. She is a member of the British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (BSPGHAN) and the European Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition (ESPGHAN).
