Zeiad El Gizawy

Mr Zeiad El-Gizawy is a Consultant Gynaecologist with a specialist practice focused on endometriosis, robotic surgery and minimally invasive gynaecological procedures. His approach is centred on helping women understand the cause of their symptoms, providing expert surgical treatment where appropriate, and developing a management plan suited to their individual circumstances. He is committed to providing the time, continuity and personalised attention that can be offered through private healthcare.

Following postgraduate training in the West Midlands Deanery, Mr El-Gizawy spent more than 12 years as an NHS Consultant at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust. Working with a large and varied patient population, including many women with complex conditions, played an important role in shaping his clinical approach. He now works exclusively in private practice, allowing him to provide greater continuity and dedicate more time to each patient's individual needs.

Mr El-Gizawy leads two BSGE-accredited endometriosis centres: the Manchester and Cheshire Endometriosis Centre at HCA and the Midlands Robotic Endometriosis Centre at HCA’s Harborne Hospital in Birmingham. Accreditation by the BSGE represents a recognised national standard for specialist endometriosis services, with centres required to demonstrate high standards in complex surgery, multidisciplinary care and patient management.

Robotic & Minimally Invasive Surgery

Mr El-Gizawy has more than a decade of experience in robotic surgery and was instrumental in establishing the robotic gynaecological surgery programme at The Harborne Hospital. He developed the service from its foundation and has extensive experience using robotic techniques for complex endometriosis and other gynaecological conditions.

Robotic surgery can provide enhanced precision during technically demanding procedures and, where appropriate, may offer advantages such as smaller incisions, reduced postoperative discomfort, less visible scarring and a quicker return to normal activities.

His expertise has also led to a role in proctoring and mentoring fellow consultants in robotic surgery. He is one of a small number of surgeons providing this type of specialist training entirely within the private sector, helping other consultants develop their skills in advanced minimally invasive techniques.

Approach to Care

Mr El-Gizawy recognises that women referred to him may have experienced years of unexplained symptoms, investigations and uncertainty before receiving a diagnosis. He therefore places considerable importance on listening carefully to each patient and explaining their condition and treatment options in straightforward terms.

Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, he works with each woman to understand her priorities, discuss the available options and agree on a treatment strategy that feels appropriate for her. He believes that feeling heard, understanding what is happening and having confidence in the treatment plan are fundamental parts of high-quality care. For many patients, achieving this clarity can represent an important first step towards regaining control of their health and returning to the life they want to lead.
