Mr. Paul Parker is a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee, Foot, and Ankle Surgeon, and the British Army's most senior Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon.
Specializing in lower limb sports injuries and soft tissue knee and ankle reconstruction, Mr. Parker has extensive experience from over 17 operational tours. His deep understanding of the 'soldier athlete' allows him to effectively treat military personnel from the UK and abroad. This high-level military experience enhances his NHS practice at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham (the UK's largest level 1 trauma center).
Mr. Parker graduated in Medicine from Queen's University Belfast in 1985. Following military service in Central America and Germany, he trained as an orthopaedic surgeon in London, Edinburgh, and the US, becoming a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1998. He served as a consultant at South Tees Hospitals in North East England until 2012 when his military duties brought him to Birmingham, which he now commutes to weekly from his home in North Yorkshire.
In 2012, Mr. Parker chose to focus on lower limb sports medicine and soft tissue knee and ankle reconstruction. He treats a variety of sports injuries, from high-level athletes with ligament injuries to recreational runners or walkers with shin splints. After performing lower limb joint replacement surgery for over 14 years, he now emphasizes modern joint preservation techniques to extend the life of the knee and ankle, avoiding joint replacement surgery.
Mr. Parker has significant experience in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) surgery and revision ACL surgery, performing these specialized operations regularly in both the NHS and private sector. He is among the few UK consultants known for routine ankle arthroscopy and ankle ligament reconstruction, procedures particularly relevant to military injury patterns.
His specialist interests also cover general wear and tear issues of the knee, foot, ankle, and toes, such as knee or ankle instability and bunions. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in diagnosing and treating plantar fasciitis.
Mr. Parker is dedicated to providing personalized care tailored to the individual needs of each patient.
