About

Mr Paul Fenton FRCS (Tr & Orth) is a Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma and Limb Reconstruction Surgeon in Birmingham and Limb Reconstruction Service Lead at University Hospitals Birmingham. Since 2015, he has practised at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Major Trauma Centre for the region, and he receives tertiary referrals for complex lower limb trauma and reconstruction from across the area. His clinical practice encompasses complex lower limb trauma, including periarticular fractures, foot and ankle injuries, orthoplastic limb salvage, and post-traumatic reconstruction. He has a specialist interest in amputation and is a part of one of the only NHS-based teams in the United Kingdom delivering osseointegration. Mr Fenton consults and operates privately at The Harborne Hospital, Birmingham.

Mr Fenton completed his undergraduate medical education at the University of Edinburgh, followed by higher surgical training in orthopaedics in Birmingham. He subsequently undertook specialist fellowship training in limb reconstruction and trauma in Bristol, Foot and Ankle surgery in Sheffield and an AO Trauma fellowship in Tampa, Florida. A substantial proportion of his practice involves the use of circular fixators in the management of acute and delayed trauma reconstruction, non-union, malunion, and bone infection, alongside the treatment of post-traumatic and reconstructive foot and ankle conditions.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Mr Fenton maintains an active commitment to education and research. He teaches on regional and national courses, publishes regularly in the peer-reviewed literature, and serves as an Associate Editor of the journal Trauma. His professional memberships include AO Trauma and the Orthopaedic Trauma Society. Throughout his practice, he places emphasis on clear communication and individualised treatment planning, ensuring that patients are fully informed and supported at each stage of their care.
