Mr Roberts is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon specialising in adult cardiac surgery. He is based at the Harts Health NHS Trust but also performs private work at The Harley Street Clinic and The Wellington Hospital.
He graduated from Dundee University in 1996 and completed surgical training in the North West, becoming a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999. He undertook a fellowship in Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in Leicester. This was followed by specialist higher surgical training in adult cardiothoracic surgery in Sheffield, St George's Hospital London and Harefield Hospital.
He completed a British Heart Foundation research fellowship, where he investigated Endothelial Progenitor (stem) cells in cardiac surgery. He was awarded an MD in 2007 by the University of London for this work. In 2008 he was given the McCormack (gold) Medal for achieving the highest mark across the UK and Ireland in the cardiothoracic surgery speciality examination. Following this, he became the first cardiac surgical trainee to be awarded a fellowship by the British Society of Endovascular Therapy to pursue endovascular training.
Mr Roberts has a special interest in coronary artery surgery, aortic valve replacement, aortic root replacement, and aortic dissection surgery. He has performed over 1000 open heart operations with excellent results and high levels of patient satisfaction. He is also has extensive experience in performing transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for treatment of aortic stenosis.
He is actively involved in research and has over 20 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He is regularly invited to speak at both national and international conferences.
