Mr Neil Roberts is a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon specialising in adult cardiac surgery. His NHS practice is based at Barts Health NHS Trust, and he also sees private patients at The Harley Street Clinic and The Wellington Hospital.
Mr Roberts graduated from Dundee University in 1996 and completed his early surgical training in the North West of England, becoming a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999. He went on to undertake a fellowship in Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) in Leicester, followed by higher specialist training in adult cardiothoracic surgery at leading centres including Sheffield, St George’s Hospital London and Harefield Hospital.
Alongside his clinical training, Mr Roberts completed a British Heart Foundation research fellowship investigating endothelial progenitor (stem) cells in cardiac surgery. This work led to the award of an MD from the University of London in 2007. In 2008, he was awarded the McCormack Gold Medal for achieving the highest score across the UK and Ireland in the cardiothoracic surgery specialty examination. He was also the first cardiac surgical trainee to receive a fellowship from the British Society of Endovascular Therapy, enabling him to pursue advanced endovascular training.
Mr Roberts has a particular interest in coronary artery surgery, aortic valve replacement, aortic root replacement and surgery for aortic dissection. He has performed over 1,000 open heart operations, achieving excellent clinical outcomes and high levels of patient satisfaction. He also has extensive experience in transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) for the treatment of aortic stenosis.
Actively involved in research, Mr Roberts has authored more than 20 peer-reviewed publications and is regularly invited to speak at national and international conferences. His practice combines technical excellence with a strong commitment to evidence-based care and patient-centred outcomes.
