Mr Leach is a Consultant Neurosurgeon with sub-specialty interests in spinal surgery, including tumours. He have a particular expertise in neck conditions including neck and arm pain, disc prolapse, cervical fusion and cervical disc replacement. Mr Leach commonly perform operations for lumbar disc prolapse and spinal stenosis.

Mr Leach believes in a multidisciplinary approach to spinal problems. Surgery can often be avoided and, where it is necessary, should be done in the safest and least invasive way possible. The development of navigated spinal surgery and use of intraoperative spinal cord monitoring for spinal decompression surgery are two of the patient safety advances that he has been developing recently in Manchester. Mr Leach is committed to surgical education through training fellowships and surgeon instructional courses, and via clinical research into spinal disorders. He has held local, regional and national roles in the organisation of NHS spinal services, including the Regional Spinal Network and NHS England’s CRG for Spinal Services. Mr Leach’s surgical outcomes are excellent, as evidenced by patient reported outcomes on more than 500 spinal surgical patients registered under his care on the British Spine Registry (2025).
