About

Mr. Janos Z Balega is a highly experienced Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist with specialised training across Hungary, the UK, and the United States, including a fellowship in Indianapolis. His expertise spans complex cancer surgeries, with a strong focus on laparoscopic techniques, radical, and exenterative surgery for both primary and recurrent gynaecological cancers.

Mr. Balega completed his subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology at renowned London centres, including St Bartholomew’s and The Royal Marsden Hospitals. He currently serves as a Consultant at City Hospital and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He also holds certification as an accredited colposcopist.

His clinical interests include ovarian cysts, abnormal bleeding, HPV infection, and abnormal cervical smears. Mr. Balega excels in minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures, such as day-case hysterectomies for benign and malignant conditions, and radical laparoscopic hysterectomies for cervical cancer. Notably, he is skilled in fertility-sparing surgery, including laparoscopic radical trachelectomy for cervical cancer patients wishing to preserve fertility.

As the risk lead for the Pan-Birmingham Gynaecological Cancer Centre, Mr. Balega prioritises patient safety and high-quality care. He also contributes to the Clinical Advisory Panel of Target Ovarian Cancer and regularly reviews for the British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
