Mr Chinmay Gupte is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Clinical Reader (Associate Professor) specialising in knee and trauma surgery at Imperial College London, working across St Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospitals. He also practises as a Senior Surgeon at The Wellington Knee Unit and The Portland Hospital. He completed his medical training at Oxford University and undertook his surgical training at St Mary’s and Charing Cross Hospitals.
In 2004, Mr Gupte was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London for research into the meniscofemoral knee ligaments and their role in knee arthritis and ligament injury. He received the British Orthopaedic Association Robert Jones Gold Medal Proxime Accessit in 2005 and later became the youngest President of the Royal Society of Medicine Orthopaedics Section. He is also a member of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee.
Mr Gupte treats both paediatric and adult sports-related knee conditions. His clinical work includes management of meniscal and cruciate ligament injuries, patellofemoral instability and pain, osteochondral injuries, and early knee arthritis. His areas of practice also encompass arthroscopy, knee ligament reconstruction and repair, meniscal surgery, children’s knee surgery, patellar dislocation and realignment, chondral surgery, multiligament reconstruction, non-surgical knee pain management, trauma surgery, sports knee injuries, unicompartmental and total knee replacement, and decision-making for meniscal tears.
He maintains a strong academic interest in clinical research, particularly in meniscal surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, and arthroscopic simulator training. Mr Gupte has co-authored more than 80 publications across knee, shoulder, and ankle surgery, tuberculosis, and surgical education.
