Mr. Alan Doherty is well-known in the field of prostate cancer, having performed over 3,500 prostatectomies in the UK. He first qualified in London before relocating to Birmingham, where he has been treating prostate diseases for the past 20 years at various hospitals.
Mr. Doherty utilises leading multi-parametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) centres to assess his patients' conditions and favours minimally invasive treatments such as focal HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) and nerve-sparing MR LINAC (magnetic resonance linear accelerator) to preserve as much function as possible.
In recent years, Mr. Doherty has been leveraging his expertise in precision diagnostics and surgery to offer men with early to intermediate prostate cancer access to focal therapy (HIFU). This minimally invasive treatment provides an effective middle ground between active surveillance and radical whole gland treatments, allowing men to maintain their urinary and erectile functions.
For the treatment of urinary symptoms, Mr. Doherty employs techniques such as GreenLight laser, UroLift, and Rezum. In his free time, Mr. Doherty enjoys reading philosophy and participating in sports such as skiing, cycling, and golf.
