Miss Nicola Roche, Consultant Breast Surgeon, consults at the Chelsea Outpatient Centre and operates at the Lister Hospital. She specialises in the management of all aspects of breast diseases. Her clinics are "one stop" assessment clinics with radiology and biopsy as appropriate. She provides an oncoplastic approach to surgery, which combines plastic surgical techniques with oncological principles. She works in close collaboration with oncologists, geneticists, and plastic surgical colleagues. Her patients also have the support of a dedicated breast care nurse.
Nicola began her medical education in Ireland, graduating from Trinity College Dublin in 1989 before undergoing her specialist training in surgery in London. She was appointed as a Consultant breast surgeon, initially at the Royal Free Hospital in 2002, before moving to The Royal Marsden Hospital in 2006 till December 2023.
She was a trustee of the Association of Breast Sugery (ABS), ABS meetings secretary and member of the Clinical Practice and Standards commitee of ABS from 2018-2023. From 2010- March 2024 she has been breast pathway chair of different iterations of local cancer networks: South West London cancer network, London Cancer Alliance, & RMP Cancer Vanguard. Her role in management was driven by the belief that all individuals with breast cancer should have access to the highest quality care. She has worked to reduce variation in care through the setting of guidelines and quality standards, education and research.
Currently she is on HCA breast board and chair of the Lister Hospital breast MDT.
Her interests include minimising over-treatment of breast cancer and the management of ductal carcinoma in situ.
