Miss Elaine Scott’s expertise lies in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She became a Consultant at the Royal Free in 2000 but left the NHS in 2017 to concentrate on private practice at the Portland Hospital.
At her practice, Miss Scott’s main goal is to deliver high quality care that is personalised to the needs of individual patients. She achieves this through providing every woman in her care all the information they need. This enables each woman to confidently make her own decisions about her care with the help of Miss Scott.
Miss Scott’s key strength is her focus on communicating openly and developing good relationships with women and their partners to provide quality care. This is especially key in ensuring trouble-free pregnancy and delivery. Most of her patients go through normal, healthy pregnancies. This is testament to her ability to identify and anticipate problems early. An ability that comes from her considerable experience working in obstetric and labour wards. She also encourages normality in pregnancy and delivery whenever it is safe to do so.
Miss Scott also practices general gynaecology, tackling a wide range of issues including irregular periods, pregnancy loss, pre-pregnancy counselling, hormonal imbalances, birth control, hormone replacement therapy and the menopause. She considers preventative gynaecology very important and so provides well-woman exams, yearly cervical health screenings including smear tests and checking for sexually transmitted infections.
As part of her performance appraisal, Elaine Scott receives feedback from nurses, doctors within her specialism, GPs and theatre staff that she has worked with, as well as patients. The feedback gathered demonstrates that she is highly regarded by and has good working relationships with fellow healthcare team members. Her patients are also very pleased with the care they received. Her colleagues have scored her highly on all criteria relating to her clinical practice, making her substantially above the national and the speciality average.
During her time at the Royal Free Hospital, Elaine Scott held several leadership positions including Labour ward lead, Clinical governance lead, Risk management lead and Obstetric department lead. She also assumed a teaching role at the hospital, supervising the training of newly qualified medical practitioners within the department. Moreover, Miss Scott initiated and managed the foundation of a new birthing suite with home-from-home facilities and a midwife-led care unit. Another notable achievement is the establishment of the first specialist joint renal/obstetric clinic to provide care for pregnant women with transplants and kidney-related problems. She received a Fellowship to the RCOG in recognition for her work in 2006.
Miss Scott received her medical education and training at University College Hospital. She completed her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at a number of teaching hospitals in London. These comprised Chelsea and Westminster, St Marys Hospital, and Queen Charlotte’s Hospital. She was also trained at hospitals outside London, including Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge and the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford. She conducted research for her Doctor of Medicine thesis at University College Hospital.
Miss Scott holds clinics Monday to Friday 09.30 to 17.30. Some appointments may be available outwith these hours. To book an appointment, please get in touch by email or telephone.
