Miss Maryam Alfa-Wali is a Consultant Colorectal and Trauma Surgeon at St Mary's Hospital, London, affiliated with Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Her clinical focus lies in the treatment of patients with general surgery conditions, benign colorectal (bowel, anus and rectum) conditions, and those who have undergone major trauma. Her holistic approach, combining clinical expertise, research acumen, and dedication to education, sets her apart as a compassionate and accomplished surgical consultant with an additional interest in environmentally friendly surgical practices, resource utilisation and sustainability.
Ms Alfa-Wali earned a PhD from Imperial College London, focusing on ‘Metabolic Profiling in patients with colorectal cancer’. She completed her medical degree at the University of Wales in 2003. Furthermore, she has a Master’s degree in Surgical Education (MEd) from Imperial College and is a Member of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh (MFST). She underwent training in London and obtained her Fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS). Ms Alfa-Wali takes a keen interest in shaping the next generation of surgeons .
With over 50 publications in prestigious international journals, her contributions to advancing surgical knowledge are further underscored by invitations to speak at international conferences, where she shares insights and innovations with fellow professionals.
