Dr Jonathan Lai

With a wealth of experience in obstetrics, Dr. Jonathan Lai serves as an accomplished Consultant Obstetrician specializing in Maternal and Fetal Medicine within the NHS. He is based at St Mary’s Hospital, where he attends to both NHS and private patients at the Lindo Wing. Additionally, he provides specialized care for complex fetal conditions at Imperial and King's College Hospitals.

Dr. Lai's medical journey commenced with the completion of his degree at Imperial College London in 2009, following which he pursued further training in Australia before returning to London to specialize in obstetrics and gynaecology. His academic pursuits led him to conduct extensive research on pre-eclampsia, culminating in the attainment of his MD under the mentorship of Professor Nicolaides. His significant contributions to the field are evidenced by numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.

As a NIHR academic trainee in the North West Thames region, Dr. Lai concurrently engaged in impactful research endeavours focused on fetal physiology and monitoring alongside his clinical duties. Subsequent to his core training, he further honed his expertise through sub-specialist training at King’s College Hospital, concentrating on preterm birth and maternal-fetal medicine.

Moreover, at St Mary's Hospital, Dr. Lai assumes the role of lead for fetal monitoring teaching for the multidisciplinary team, playing a pivotal role in the education and professional development of healthcare practitioners in the realm of obstetrics and maternal-fetal medicine.
