Dr Stephens qualified in medicine from Guy's Hospital Medical School, London in 1973. He worked as a Renal and Surgical House Surgeon at Guy's Hospital, as a Metropolitan Police Surgeon in the West and East End of London and as a Senior House Surgeon in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at St Thomas' Hospital, London.

As a General Practitioner and partner from 1977 to 2010 within the National Health Service, Dr Stephens taught doctors, nurses and medical students. Dr Stephens has a wide experience of all aspects of General Practice and a dedicated interest in family medicine.
