Dr. Fairoz Abdul is a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at Birmingham City Hospital and Sandwell General Hospital, and he also treats private patients at The Harborne Hospital. He graduated from Bangalore University, India, in 1999 and completed his postgraduate training in general medicine and cardiology in the West Midlands and Wales, UK.
Dr. Abdul received advanced training at the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff and Morriston Cardiac Centre Swansea. In 2017, he earned a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in cardiology with a focus on cardiac intervention. He completed an advanced fellowship in interventional cardiology at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
Since October 2018, Dr. Abdul has been with Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust. He manages a wide range of cardiology conditions, including coronary artery disease (CAD), hypertension, and valvular heart disease. Dr. Abdul operates specialized heart clinics for conditions such as angina, heart attacks, heart valve disease, cardiac collapse, post-heart surgery care, and other cardiovascular issues. He is skilled in cardiac imaging techniques like coronary CT and structural heart CT (TAVI CT).
Dr. Abdul performs both non-invasive and invasive diagnostic procedures, including cardiac catheterizations and therapeutic procedures such as coronary angioplasty, stenting, coronary atherectomy, and valvuloplasty.
Dr. Abdul holds an MD from Cardiff University, focusing on the effects of nitrates on antiplatelet drugs in CAD patients. He has published extensively in international medical journals and is a principal investigator in multicentre research projects on valve disease and coronary intervention. He also supervises a PhD student at Aston University, Birmingham.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Abdul has NHS management roles in human resources, clinical supervision, and clinical governance. He is the organising director of a simulation training course for interventional fellows and leads the interventional fellowship program at Birmingham City Hospital.
