Dr. Richard Carroll is a consultant cardiologist treating patients with all forms of heart problems, including chest pain, breathlessness, palpitations, high blood pressure, blackouts, fatigue, and heart failure. He has a particular interest in coronary heart disease, such as angina and heart attacks, and the prevention of these problems through risk factor management. Dr. Carroll is skilled in coronary intervention and advanced imaging techniques using ultrasound and x-rays. He graduated from Sheffield University Medical School in 1990, receiving the Gold Medal in Clinical Medicine, Clinical Surgery, and Paediatrics. He completed postgraduate general medicine training on the Mersey regional rotation, quickly gaining an MRCP and was admitted to the Royal College of Physicians of London. Dr. Carroll trained as a Cardiology Registrar in the West Midlands Deanery and completed his sub-specialist training in interventional cardiology at the University of Birmingham. He was appointed as a consultant cardiologist in 2003. Outside of his clinical work, Dr. Carroll trains undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors to consultant level and is an invited lecturer and examiner. His clinical expertise includes general and interventional cardiology, coronary angioplasty and stenting, management of angina, non-invasive cardiac imaging techniques, CT coronary angiography, stent implantation, angioplasty, pulmonary embolism catheter-directed pulmonary thrombolysis (EKOS), and managing conditions such as high blood pressure, arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, syncope, complex diagnosis, cardiac imaging, cardiac CT, implantable loop recorder (Reveal) implantation, heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, hyperlipidaemia, and high cholesterol.
