Dr Rebecca Liu is a Consultant Neurologist at The Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, but also performs private work at The Physicians' Clinic, Devonshire Street and the Private Patients Unit at the Royal Free Hospital and Hadley Wood. She specialises in the management of first seizures, complex refractory epilepsy, blackouts, dissociative seizures and functional neurological disorders. She also has extensive experience in a wide range of neurological conditions including headaches, tremor, dizziness and memory problems.
After obtaining a first class honours BSc degree in psychology from University College London, Dr Liu completed her medical training at Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital. She undertook her postgraduate training at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN), Queen Square and the Royal Free Hospital, Hampstead. She completed further training in epilepsy at a number of establishments, including the renowned Chalfont Centre for Epilepsy and NHNN. In 2004, she was awarded a PhD for her research into the impact of epilepsy on the human brain.
Dr Liu runs general neurology, specialist epilepsy clinics and dissociative seizure clinics at her NHS practices. As well as her consultancy post, she is also the Neuroscience Audit Lead and Functional Neurological disorders lead at the Royal Free Hospital. She works closely with primary care and was involved in setting up a community epilepsy service. She is actively involved in research into epilepsy and her work has been published in a number of prestigious peer reviewed journals. Dr Liu has received the prestigious Charles Symonds Prize (Association of British Neurologists) and Young Investigator Award (American Epilepsy Society) for her work.
