Dr Swayne is a Consultant Neurologist with broad experience across general neurology and a specialist interest in neurorehabilitation. He studied medicine at Cambridge University and was awarded a PhD in Neuroscience from University College London, during which he also spent a dedicated year researching brain plasticity following stroke. His clinical practice covers a wide range of neurological conditions including headache disorders, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, stroke, movement disorders and acute neurological presentations. He also regularly assesses complex symptoms such as tremor, sensory disturbance and unexplained episodes. Alongside diagnostic assessment, Dr Swayne provides longer-term neurological care, with particular expertise in post-stroke rehabilitation.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr Swayne has published multiple original research papers and book chapters focusing on the control of movement by the brain and the role of neuroplasticity in recovery after stroke. His academic background informs his evidence-based approach to neurorehabilitation. He also undertakes neurological investigations where appropriate, including angiography and ultrasound. Dr Swayne obtained his MB BS from the University of London in 1999 and completed his PhD in Neuroscience at University College London.
