Ian Chikanza is a specialist in internal medicine and rheumatology, focusing on both adult and paediatric patients, with particular expertise in hypermobility and Ehlers-Danlos disorders. Trained at Guy's and St Thomas' in London under the guidance of Professor Rodney Grahame, he has collaborated with him for over 30 years. He also trained at the Children's Hospital, Tufts Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. In 1996, he was appointed Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Cape Town Medical School.Currently, Ian is a consultant in rheumatology (adult and paediatric) at St Barts and The Royal London, and he holds professorships in medicine at the Catholic University Zimbabwe and as a visiting professor of rheumatology at the University of Zimbabwe. He is also a medical scientist, and some of his research has led to the development of successful biological treatments for rheumatoid arthritis and other autoimmune inflammatory diseases. His expertise includes adult rheumatology, paediatric rheumatology, hypermobility disorders, and internal medicine.
