Dr Gauri Godbole is a Consultant Microbiologist and Parasitologist. Her works at the Hospital for Tropical Diseases, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She is also a Consultant Microbiologist for the National Infection Service, Public Health England and an Honorary Associate Professor at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Infectious and Tropical Diseases.
She graduated from Pune in 1997 and has an MD in Internal Medicine from the University of Mumbai. She trained further in Internal Medicine in London until 2005 and undertook a Fellowship in Medical Microbiology and Virology at the University College London NHS Foundation Trust which she completed in 2013. She has over 20 years of experience in the field of infection and has worked in many large hospitals across London. Her clinical interests include tropical infections, travellers' diarrhoea, infections in returning travellers. She specialises in gastrointestinal infections and parasites and she is the clinical lead for the national helicobacter and botulism service for England. Her other interests include the management of complex infections and antibiotic stewardship. Her research involves newer technologies like whole-genome sequencing for detection of antimicrobial resistance. She has contributed to many national guidelines, is on national advisory committees and has more than 30 publications in the field of Infection.
