About

Dr Amanda Varnava graduated from Oxford University and then Barts Hospital in 1990. She specialised in cardiology training at the top cardiology centres including Royal Brompton Hospital, St George’s Hospital, and Barts and the London Chest Hospital. Dr Varnava also sees patients privately at a number of locations.

She has completed a research degree in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and genetics and has since gone on to develop a specialist expertise in inherited cardiac conditions and sudden death syndromes - she established the Inherited Cardiac Conditions service at Imperial College.

She also runs the pregnancy and heart disease service for West Hertfordshire, seeing pregnant women with known or suspected heart disease. Dr Varnava offers specialist services for patients with heart failure, pregnancy and heart disease, and inherited heart problems. She also specialises in evaluating sports people/athletes and performs pre-participation screening for the FA and many premiership Football clubs . She is on the expert advisory panel for the FA and the Cardiomyopathy Association and undertakes an active research programme in the sudden death syndromes.
