Ahilan Kailaya-Vasan serves as a consultant neurosurgeon at King’s College Hospital in London and holds fellowship status at the Royal College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the London International Patient Services (LIPS).
His expertise encompasses cranial and spinal neurosurgery, with a particular focus on intricate neurovascular conditions, such as aneurysms, AVMs, fistulae, cavernomas, neurovascular compressive syndromes, and Moya Moya disease. Mr. Kailaya-Vasan's proficiency in complex spine issues allows for a distinctive approach to neurovascular diseases affecting the spine, as well as conditions like back and neck pain.
Having earned his medical degree from University College London, Mr. Kailaya-Vasan underwent advanced neurosurgical training in Sheffield and London. His training was concluded with the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons accredited King’s Neurovascular Fellowship.
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Mr. Kailaya-Vasan is actively involved in the training and education of aspiring neurosurgeons. Currently holding the position of Training Programme Director for Neurosurgery in South London, he is also the co-director of the King’s Neurovascular Fellowship. He supports the training of the Royal College-accredited King’s College Hospital Complex Spine Fellow. His research interests span both neurovascular and spinal pathology, and he co-leads the King’s NeuroLab, blending his passion for training and research.
Mr. Kailaya-Vasan is dedicated to providing his patients with a comprehensive understanding of their neurosurgical condition and available management options. He collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team, including interventional neuro-radiologists, neurologists, neuro-anaesthetists, nurse specialists, physiotherapists, and pain specialists, to ensure optimal outcomes for his patients.
