Patient stories
With over 45,000 young patients visiting The Portland Hospital and The Harley Street Clinic every year, our consultant paediatricians, nurses and support staff have the pleasure of getting to know each individual very well.
No matter what condition your child may be receiving treatment for, we are committed to ensuring they have as comfortable an experience as possible, helping to improve their quality of life in the process.
Below are just a few examples of the wonderful patients who have been kind enough to share their personal Portland and Harley Street stories with us. We hope reading these can inspire other parents and children to feel less nervous about any future hospital stay.
Jude's selective dorsal rhizotomy
Jude is now closer than ever to achieving his dream, as just a few days after he underwent the selective dorsal rhizotomy (SDR) neurological procedure at The Portland Hospital, he was able to stand flat footed for the first time in his life.
Charlotte's scoliosis treatment
Sadye's 12-year-old daughter Charlotte was just at the end of a growth spurt when she was diagnosed with scoliosis in 2015. Scoliosis is a condition where a sideways curve of the spine develops as a result of rotation of the spinal column.
The discovery of the curve on Charlotte’s back led her parents to the GP, who decided to refer Charlotte to The Portland Hospital for surgery in order to prevent the condition from getting worse.
Joel's heart surgery
After being referred to The Harley Street Clinic, Joel's initial nerves about corrective surgery were alleviated, after the operation was a complete success.
