Why choose The London Craniofacial Unit?
Craniofacial and maxillofacial referrals are usually complex and often require input from many specialists. The London Craniofacial Unit combines the experience of a highly skilled team of surgeons with award-winning therapy teams at The Wellington Hospital and The Portland Hospital for Women and Children, ensuring a comprehensive adult and children’s craniofacial service is accessible in London’s private sector.
Craniofacial conditions and injuries not only effect appearances but can also have an effect on functional abilities. The face and skull are important for the ability to eat, speak, see, smell and hear and also to protect important structures such as the brain.
Treating complex craniofacial conditions needs a multidisciplinary approach and the London Craniofacial Unit (LCU) has brought together a team of leading specialists in their field to treat these complex problems.

A holistic multidisciplinary approach
Congenital and acquired craniofacial conditions are almost always complex problems. They affect both appearance and function and often need expert input from specialists in many different fields. Many units provide surgical reconstructive services in isolation, it is our belief that ideal treatment cannot be provided without the input of specialists with expertise in function and rehabilitation.
Together with direct care from the consultants, the patients case is managed within a specialist multi-disciplinary team of ENT specialists, Ophthalmologists, Geneticists, Orthodontists and other specialists such as Paediatricians. The team members meet at least once a week to discuss the individual cases as necessary.
At LCU we have formed a team of highly skilled reconstructive surgeons who are supported by specialists with expertise in vision, hearing, speech, feeding, psychological well-being and rehabilitation. We are actively involved in research into craniofacial reconstruction, and with our industry partners, provide the most up-to-date computer image guided reconstructive techniques and implant technologies.
This holistic approach provides the best opportunity for effective restoration of form and function.
