Congenital and paediatric cardiac care

From diagnosis to surgery, we offer highly-specialised care for babies, children and teens with complex conditions such as holes in the heart, chest pain, valve problems and structural heart disease.

Our paediatric cardiologists are some of the world's leading consultants in their field, and The Portland Hospital remains the only independent hospital in the UK specialising in paediatric congenital heart treatments.

Children's orthopaedic service

Paediatric orthopaedics

We treat common conditions including sports injuries, flat feet, fractures and congenital hip problems, as well as carrying out complex procedures such as leg-lengthening operations.

Combined with our sports medicine service, we also treat knee injuries, fractures and ligament damage, all available in our world-class paediatric orthopaedics unit at The Portland Hospital.

Special care services

Paediatric ICU

The Portland's Paediatric Intensive Care Unit's (PICU) multidisciplinary team of leading paediatric consultants and clinical nurses offer complex medical treatment and surgery to young children who require a high level of emergency care.

Neonatal ICU

Combining state-of-the-art medical technology with our highly skilled specialist team of consultant neonatologists and neonatal nurses, our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has the perfect facilities to deliver the higher level of care your baby may require if they are premature, or ill upon arrival.

Special Care Baby Unit

The onsite Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at The Portland provides care for newborn babies who require medical treatment, due to being born early or because they have become unwell. The care given in SCBU is less intensive than that given in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Transitional Care Unit

The Portland's Transitional Care Unit (TCU) allows babies who need treatment or monitoring, which exceeds standard routine care for a newborn, to be cared for by our consultant and midwifery obstetric team. If your baby is admitted to the TCU, there will be less need for them to be admitted to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU).
