Our on-site Neonatal Unit at The Portland Hospital provides highly specialised care ranging from short-term intensive care through to the High Dependency Unit and the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). Our neonatal care delivery is further supported by the full range of paediatric services offered by The Portland, if required.
While many of the babies admitted to the unit are premature (born before 37 weeks of pregnancy), term babies may also need the additional support in the first few days of life due to conditions such as a low birth weight or who have a medical condition which requires specialist care. As a small and friendly team, the same neonatal nurses care for your baby from admission to NICU to discharge from SCBU. This allows you to get to know and trust the people looking after your baby. We can also arrange for babies born within the NHS requiring neonatal services to be transferred to our care.
