    Ms Claire Fitzgerald is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon who specializes in conditions relating to the Shoulder and Upper Limb. Her undergraduate studies were in the University of Wales, College of Medicine, graduating in 2003. She went on to complete her early surgical and orthopaedic training in the University Hospital of Wales and the Welsh Orthopaedic Training Rotation, before relocating to London to join the University College Hospital London Orthopaedic Training Rotation. She has completed 20 months of subspecialty shoulder and upper limb fellowship training in University College Hospital London, and Guys and St Thomas’ Hospital London – with training in all aspects of arthroscopic and open shoulder and upper limb surgery.

    Ms Fitzgerald has an interest in postgraduate clinical education and was awarded a Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Education from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Glasgow. She is a faculty member on a number of training courses, including courses for the FRCS Trauma and Orthopaedics. She is a qualified Advanced Trauma and Life Support Instructor and regularly instructs and examines for this internationally recognized qualification. She has an interest in clinical research, and has co published in peer reviewed journals, and also had a key role in the setup of an NIHR clinical randomized controlled trial on fellowship.

    She was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Barts Health NHS Trust in 2015. She delivers a comprehensive Upper Limb Service within the Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre – a leading orthopaedic centre in London. She is also an integral part of the orthopaedic team delivering trauma care in the prestigious Royal London Hospital – a major trauma centre in London. She is dedicated to providing evidence based care in both open and arthroscopic surgery, and achieves excellent surgical outcomes. She continues to develop her skills and knowledge by attending regular national and international orthopaedic conferences and training courses.

    Ms Fitzgerald firmly believes that effective communication and shared decision making are key to providing the highest quality of care to her patients.
