For Tanzil, an interest in science and a desire to make a difference led him to a career in therapeutic radiography, where cutting-edge technology meets compassionate patient care. Since joining HCA UK as a Senior Therapeutic Radiographer, Tanzil has embraced new opportunities for growth while helping patients navigate their cancer treatment journey with confidence and reassurance.
I've always been interested in science, particularly physics, and knew I wanted to use my interest to help people, so a career in healthcare felt like the right choice. While exploring different healthcare careers, I came across therapeutic radiography and realised it combined my interests in physics, biology and patient care.
I went on to study at City University and started my career at The Royal Marsden Hospital as a newly qualified Therapeutic Radiographer. I spent two and a half years there developing my skills and building my experience before joining HCA UK in early 2026 as a Senior Therapeutic Radiographer.
There’s so much variety, which is something I love about the role. We start each morning by carrying out quality assurance checks on our treatment machines before coming together as a team to discuss the day ahead.
From there, my day involves delivering radiotherapy treatments, supporting patients through their treatment journey, working closely with colleagues across the multidisciplinary team and helping solve technical challenges as they arise.
It constantly challenges me, keeps me learning and, most importantly, allows me to make a positive impact. I got into therapeutic radiography for the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to people receiving cancer treatment, and I can really do that here.
Without a doubt, it's the people. Both colleagues and patients.
Many of the patients we support are going through one of the most difficult times of their lives, so knowing that I can make their experience a little easier means a lot to me. Sometimes it's the small things that have the biggest impact, whether that's taking the time to answer a question, offering reassurance or just making someone smile. Those moments are genuinely rewarding.
I also feel very fortunate to work alongside such a supportive team. Everyone is willing to help each other, share knowledge and work together to provide the best possible care. The relationships I've built with my colleagues have been one of the highlights of my career so far.
I'm excited about continuing my career within oncology and radiotherapy.
Long term, I'd love to move into a Team Leader role and continue developing my leadership skills. I'm also interested in exploring other areas within oncology and learning more about some of the behind-the-scenes roles that contribute to patient care.
What excites me most is knowing there are so many opportunities to continue learning, growing and making a difference.
