How Long Have You Been Working Here?

I’ve been with HCA UK for two years now, but before that, I worked in private healthcare for more than 10 years. That was in finance, now it’s more about supporting people.

How Did You Get Started?

My background is in finance, but I’ve always been drawn to roles where I could interact with people. My previous role wasn’t giving me that, so I made the switch. In finance, you’re in a bit of a bubble and often you only talk to people when something has gone wrong.
I actually worked with a lot of people from HCA UK before I started. I was always impressed by them, so that was a big part of why I joined.

What’s Your Role, and What Do You Do Day-to-Day?

I’m part of Patient Access. We guide patients through the admin side of their healthcare journey. Whether they’re booking an appointment or paying for treatment, we’re there to help them from start to finish. We provide answers and we guide them through our system. The role is a hybrid of finance, operations, and business development, so my days vary a lot, but the focus is always on patient experience. We also work with lots of other departments and so we’re kind of translators between people that keep everyone on the same page.

What Do You Enjoy Most About Your Role?

I think the best part is the ability to solve problems. In my finance days, I’d identify issues but couldn’t do much about them. Now, I’m actively involved in fixing issues, whether it’s improving a process or making operational changes. There’s also something incredibly rewarding about seeing the direct impact I have on people.

Can You Tell Us About the People You Work With?

I’m incredibly proud to work with such an amazing team of Patient Access Leaders, Seniors and Patient Access Officers. Together, we’ve built something special; a network focused on delivering outstanding care and service to every patient. Our senior leaders truly inspire me. Seeing one leader successfully manage multiple sites is a real testament to their dedication and skill. Leadership at HCA UK is exceptional, but it’s not the exception. Everyone here does phenomenal work.

Have You Taken Advantage of Your Benefits?

One benefit that really stood out to me was the health screening package. My family has a history of cancer, so the ability to get a private health screening through HCA UK was a huge relief. It allowed us to get the answers we needed without the long wait. Those kinds of benefits give you of peace of mind.

At HCA UK, I have a role where I can actively fix problems and issues using my knowledge of the finance world and apply that to how private healthcare works. In my career, I’ve helped shape the pricing for IVF treatment, so it’s amazing what your skills can do here. Managers and colleagues at HCA UK are phenomenal too. They’ve set a fantastic example to all of us. We’ve spent time building this team up and now it’s really our time to shine.

Do You Have Any Standout Stories?

There’s one project that I think is a great example of the impact my team makes. We helped overhaul the pricing system for our IVF clinic. We moved from giving patients a range of prices to offering clearer estimates specific to their treatment plan. It might sound simple, but it was a massive project. The result was phenomenal; our complaints dropped to zero. It made a huge difference to patient satisfaction, and it’s shaped the structure of HCA UK.

What Makes You Stay at HCA UK?

It’s the people. The level of dedication from my colleagues is unmatched. There’s a real sense of collaboration here. We work hard to make things better for our patients, but we always look out for each other too. You don’t have to look far to see someone setting an example, raising the bar or just generally being inspiring.

What’s Next for You?

Down the line, I’d love to take on a bigger operational role, maybe as a Chief Operating Officer. I like fixing things and making our processes better, so that role would be right for me. I’m confident I’d get the support to pursue that because I’ve seen other people get that encouragement and support. But right now, I’m focused on building up my team and being there for them so we can be there for patients.
