What is dialysis for children?

Dialysis removes the waste products from the blood that would normally be filtered by the kidneys and passed out of the body as urine.

Our paediatric dialysis service at The Portland Hospital treats children with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. Working closely with the paediatric intensive care unit, the team uses a multidisciplinary approach and delivers high quality care.

We have access to over 160 leading paediatric consultants across more than 50 specialties. We also have in-house imaging and nutrition services allowing us to provide comprehensive treatment to manage complications associated with kidney disease.

Paediatric dialysis service

Our consultant-led service is the only dedicated private paediatric dialysis service in the UK. We provide:

  • holiday dialysis
  • peritoneal dialysis
  • haemodialysis for acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease
  • continuous renal replacement therapy.
