Our founder
Hossam Abdalla FRCOG
Founder and Clinical Director of The Lister Clinic from 1988 to 2018
Mr Hossam (Sam) Abdalla, retired Consultant Gynaecologist, is the founder of the Lister Fertility Clinic, which he established in 1988.
Mr Abdalla’s career
Mr Abdalla was the Clinical Director of the Lister Fertility Clinic until 2018. Although he stepped down from the role of Clinical Director at that time, he continued to work there until April 2022, when he retired.
During his career Mr Abdalla published and presented lectures on many aspects of assisted conception, having a particular interest in oocyte donation and in women with a reduced ovarian reserve and high follicle stimulating hormone (FSH).
He has always believed in transparency of our work and to this end he has designed our Pregnancy Calculator which is used by our doctors to counsel each couple with their own chance to succeed based on our own experience at the Lister Fertility Clinic.
Whilst the director of the clinic he also served on the boards of the:
- British Fertility Society, from 1998 to 2004
- Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA), from 2004 to 2014
- Human Tissue Authority (HTA), from 2014 to 2018
The Lister Fertility Clinic
The clinic is located in our Grade II-listed building and named after the British surgeon and antiseptic pioneer Joseph Lister. Since opening in 1988, the clinic has maintained its reputation as being one of the most successful IVF treatment clinics in the UK with over 20,000 “Lister” babies born.
