Our story

Dedicated to the care and improvement of human life

Dr Thomas Frist founded HCA (Hospital Corporation of America) in 1968, with a vision of creating a healthcare company with the scope, resources and expertise to provide the highest possible standard of care.

Now, with nearly 300 hospitals across the US and UK, 87,000 nurses and 37,000 doctors, HCA is one of the world’s leading providers of private healthcare services. We learn from every one of our 27 million patient encounters each year, helping to ensure that we deliver the outstanding care that we would want for our own family to each and every individual patient.

Above all else, we are committed to the care and improvement of human life

Our values

Our mission is to commit to the care and improvement of human life above all else.

To achieve this, we all live and breathe four core values.

Training & development

It’s not just our facilities, treatments and technology that keep us at the forefront of healthcare. It’s our people too. Helping everyone to learn and grow at HCA UK is a core pillar of our colleague strategy. To enable this we invest heavily every year in professional and personal development.

For those colleagues that directly care for our patients we offer a wide range of development opportunities which include many clinically focused study days such as Advanced Life Support, Intravenous Cannulation and Advanced Airway. These study days are designed to meet individual development needs and provide resources to deliver the highest standards of patient care.

Clinicians in leadership roles can access clinical leadership courses, including the RCN Accredited Being an Effective Clinical Leader programme. In partnership with Cass Business School, we also offer an Executive Masters in Medical Leadership programme, with a fully funded part-time MSc, to help junior doctors develop the leadership skills for senior roles in the future.

We offer a range of Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) development programmes that support aspiring leaders through to senior leaders. For senior leaders we offer a fully funded Executive Master in Leadership and Executive MBA. Our programme of Leadership Essentials is designed to equip all leaders with the core skills, knowledge and behaviours that they need to be successful.

We also offer a range of professional qualifications to all our colleagues, including Customer Service and Business Administration, that provide a structured learning programme delivered through workplace learning with the support of a dedicated learning adviser.
