Principal Physicist - MR‑Linac Planning
London, The Harley Street Clinic
Full time, 37.5 hours per week
Permanent
Salary: Competitive, dependent upon experience
We’re looking for a Principal Physicist (MR‑Linac Planning) to join our Radiotherapy Physics team at The Harley Street Clinic, rated Outstanding by the CQC. This role offers a rare opportunity to help shape a brand‑new MR‑guided radiotherapy service from the very beginning. Our Elekta Unity MR‑Linac has been installed and is scheduled to go live this quarter, representing a major step forward in HCA UK’s advanced radiotherapy capability and long‑term investment in innovation, research and patient‑centred care.
As a Principal Physicist MR‑Linac Planning, you’ll act as the Medical Physics Expert for MR‑Linac planning, leading the design, development and clinical implementation of the online adaptive treatment planning workflow. Working closely with a dedicated multidisciplinary team across our London network, you’ll help define how MR‑guided adaptive radiotherapy is delivered within HCA UK. This is a highly influential role with clear progression into senior leadership, offering scope to drive service development, contribute to research activity and support the future expansion of MR‑Linac services across the hospital group.
As a Principal Physicist in Radiotherapy Physics, you’ll be part of a collaborative and forward‑thinking service supporting oncologists, radiographers, dosimetrists and physicists at every stage of the patient pathway. Day to day, you’ll combine expert clinical practice with leadership and strategic oversight, providing assurance, direction and innovation in a complex and evolving area of radiotherapy. From establishing robust planning processes to supporting complex clinical decision‑making, your work will directly influence patient care and the long‑term success of the MR‑Linac service.
At HCA UK we care about what you care about. We care that you want to deliver the very best care. We care that you want a career you can be proud of. We care that you want working conditions that support your health and wellbeing. Let us care for you and your career, the same way you do for others.
What you’ll do:
  • Act as the Medical Physics Expert for MR‑Linac planning, leading the development and delivery of online adaptive workflows
  • Take responsibility for the technical oversight of MR‑Linac planning activity, ensuring safe, effective and optimised treatments
  • Lead service development initiatives across the MR‑Linac programme in collaboration with multidisciplinary colleagues
  • Provide clinical leadership and expert support in complex situations that may impact service delivery
  • Support, guide and develop colleagues working within the MR‑Linac service
What you’ll bring:
  • HCPC registration as a Clinical Scientist
  • Ability to act as a Medical Physics Expert for Radiotherapy as defined in IR(ME)R 2017
  • A masters degree in a relevant scientific, technical or healthcare discipline
  • Advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of ionising radiation and radiotherapy physics
  • Advanced experience of stereotactic planning and associated clinical requirements
