We are seeking an exceptional Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) to provide strategic and professional nursing leadership at The Portland Hospital and to play a key role in shaping the future of paediatric and women’s healthcare.

The Role

As Chief Nursing Officer, you will hold executive accountability for all nursing, midwifery and allied clinical services across The Portland Hospital. You will be a visible and inspirational leader, ensuring the highest standards of clinical quality, safety and patient experience, while developing a high‑performing, engaged and compassionate workforce.

Reporting into the Hospital Chief Executive Officer, with a professional reporting line into HCA’s group Chief Nursing Executive, you will contribute to both hospital‑level and group‑wide strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide professional and strategic leadership for nursing, midwifery and clinical teams, ensuring safe, effective and compassionate care at all times

  • Lead on quality, patient safety, clinical governance and regulatory compliance (CQC), embedding continuous improvement across services

  • Shape and deliver the nursing strategy in line with the Hospital’s vision and HCA Healthcare UK’s values

  • Foster a culture of excellence, inclusion and innovation, supporting talent development, succession planning and workforce sustainability

  • Act as a senior clinical advisor to the Executive Team, contributing to service development, growth initiatives and change programmes

  • Build strong relationships with medical colleagues, external partners and professional bodies to enhance reputation and outcomes

Skills and experience:

You will be a senior nursing leader with a strong track record of operating at executive or director level within a complex healthcare environment. You will combine clinical credibility with strategic acumen and outstanding people leadership skills.

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration

  • Significant senior leadership experience, ideally within acute, women’s health or paediatric services

  • Demonstrable experience of leading quality, safety and governance in a regulated environment

  • Strong commercial awareness and experience contributing to organisational strategy

  • Authentic, inclusive leadership style with the ability to influence at executive and board level
