  • Location: Birmingham, The Harborne Hospital
  • Hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00am–8:00pm (service hours later this year will extend to weekends)
  • Contract Type: In-House Bank- ad hoc shifts
  • Rate: £90 per hour, paid weekly, through PAYE

The Urgent Care Centre at The Harborne Hospital, part of the award-winning HCA Healthcare UK, delivers rapid, high-quality care for patients with minor illnesses and injuries. Functioning within a private hospital setting, our centre has a steady pace, highly equipped and resourced, with rapid access onsite to our Hospital Services. The quality of care is outstanding, for our private patients.

What you will do

As an Urgent Care Physician at The Private Patient Harborne Hospital, Birmingham, you will provide rapid assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients presenting with acute, non-life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Service hours are from 8:00am–8:00pm (last patient assessed at 7:30pm), requiring clinical agility, independent decision-making, and excellent communication skills, with the support of our Urgent Care Nurses.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting thorough assessments and initiating treatment plans for patients of all ages
  • Performing procedural interventions such as wound care, minor fracture management, joint aspiration, and basic procedural sedation in line with clinical guidelines
  • Ordering, interpreting, and acting on on-site diagnostics, including X-Ray, point-of-care tests, blood tests, and coordinating advanced imaging (Ultrasound, CT, MRI) with specialist consultants
  • Collaborating with UCC nurses, GP colleagues, and administrative staff to ensure smooth patient flow and timely referrals
  • Maintaining high standards of evidence-based clinical practice in a dynamic, patient-focused setting
  • Ensuring patients and their families receive compassionate, clear, and high-quality care at every stage

This role combines clinical challenge, variety, and autonomy, at a manageable pace, giving you the satisfaction of making a tangible difference at the first point of urgent care. You will play a key role in ensuring patients and their relatives experience first-class care and service at all times.

What You Will Bring

  • MBBS Medical Degree
  • GMC registration with a licence to practise in the UK
  • GP Register
  • MRCGP or equivalent
  • Current BLS and ALS certification
  • Postgraduate experience in A&E and/or Urgent Care, with competence in cannulation, basic procedures, and the ability to order and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging with a sound clinical understanding
  • Strong patient-focused communication skills and exceptional customer service
