I now grab every minute of life.

Mhairi

Like a lot of professional people, Mhairi’s health wasn’t her top priority. But when she was 55, her doctor told her she had breast cancer – and just like that, her life totally changed. She had eight months of chemotherapy at our Leaders in Oncology Care centre, and surgery at London Bridge Hospital. With treatment, she began to feel physically better. But emotionally, the cancer had dictated her life for so long that she felt she’d lost control. Our Living Well Programme helps people recovering from cancer get back to where they were before they were diagnosed. With our advice on coping with anxiety, going back to work and keeping a healthy lifestyle, Mhairi regained control over her life – and then some. Now, she says she’s fitter, healthier and stronger than before her diagnosis. She’s doing things she didn’t make time for before. She’s joined a choir. She’s started high-impact exercise. She’s eating lots of fish and vegetables. And she’s bought a flat by the sea.
